Descent decision time

Now in its 41st year, the event ” to be held on August 3-4 ” challenges competitors to 124km of gruelling white-water action down the Avon River into the Swan River.

Since the first Avon Descent in 1973, more than 30,000 |people have competed, from novices and families to world and Olympic champions.

Competitors can choose between paddle and power crafts, and course conditions range from long stretches of flat water through to fast rapids.

This year, CIC Event Management will take over organisation of the race for the first time. Managing director Craig Smith-Gander said he and his team were working towards staging the best ever Descent.

‘We’re encouraging everyone to get involved and experience the excitement of WA’s iconic white-water race, whether it’s as a competitor, support crew, sponsor, volunteer or spectator,’ he said.

Competitors are encouraged to register early to secure their place.
