The State Government is in the process of toughening up the Dog Act to enact breed specific law, which include harsher penalties for owners of dangerous dogs and up to 10 years imprisonment for owners of dangerous dogs that attack, injure or kill people.
The march is being organised by the Western Australians Against Breed Specific Legislation.
Under the proposed law, the dog owners fear their animals would be added to the ‘dangerous dogs’ list if local councils’ identification criteria of a pit bull type is inaccurate or flawed.
The Government tabled the legislation in Parliament last month and will debate it in full next month.
