It followed a review of shire facilities in terms of their purpose, usage rates and value compared with acquiring other existing or new community infrastructure.
Chidlow and Mahogany Creek halls were identified as having lower community usage but require significant infrastructure works over the next 10 years.
Shire President Helen Dullard said the council had listened to the community’s concerns for the draft SCP’s recommendation to dispose of the halls.
An alternative recommendation was adopted to allow for the consideration of community ownership and management models.
‘The shire has received a proposal from Chidlow Progress Association for management of Chidlow Hall,’ Cr Dullard said.
‘Shire employees will now work with the group, and any others who express interest, to determine its position in being able to effectively own and manage one of the halls.’
Expressions of interest are due on August 19. Details are available on 9290 6681.
