TRACEY Salsman says every child at her home-based day care is a star in their own right.

She proved the point by making lanterns for the toddlers to carry on a starry bushwalk with their families on Wednesday night as part of National Family Day Care Week.

The 2017 regional family day care educator of the year said each child carried a paper lantern with their picture on the front and strewn with cascading stars.

“The activity was an opportunity to talk with each child about why they are a star and to make each one feel special,” she said.

Ms Salsman is registered with Nature Alliance and is one of hundreds of providers participating in the week-long celebration.
