Toodyay bushfire alert downgraded

THE bushfire alert for shire of Toodyay has been downgraded to an advice.

The advice has been issued for people east of Lovers Lane, south of River Road to Folewood Road to Sandplain Road and across to Toodyay Racecourse, east of a line from the racecourse to the Clackline-Toodyay Road and Toodyay Road intersection, and north of Toodyay Road and Strahan Road in Toodyay and Hoddys Well.

The fire is now contained and under control with no threat to lives and homes.

“Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said in the advice.

“The fire started near the intersection of Toodyay Road and Strahan Road in Toodyay.”

Homes in the Wandoo Circle Subdivision were under threat last night.

DFES said the fire was reported at 04.42pm on Wednesday and the cause of fire was unknown.

“Currently there has been 90 hectares burnt,” DFES said in the advice.

“Shire of Toodyay is managing the fire.”

WHAT TO DO:

Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.

Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.

Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.

Read through your bushfire survival plan.

If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse.

If driving

Be extremely careful when driving through the area.

Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.

Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.

ROAD CLOSURES

Avoid the area and be aware of fire and emergency services personnel working on site.

Toodyay Road between Salt Valley Road and Lovers Lane has been closed off.

There is no access to Toodyay Road from Sandplain Road.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.
