‘We are going to struggle this season with the reduced number of volunteers,’ he said.

Mr Heptinstall said the service provided training and personal equipment for new members.

‘It’s an opportunity to give back to the community. You don’t have to be experienced, and anyone over 17 is welcome,’ he said. ‘Juniors from 13 to 16 can help with non-operational things.’

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter can try out the equipment at the Mundaring Market this Sunday (June 9) or at the Brigade Open Day next Saturday (June 15).

‘A new members’ information evening will be held on Monday June 17 at the fire station in Wandeara Crescent, Mundaring,’ Mr Heptinstall said.

The Mundaring VFRS is the only FRS brigade in the Shire of Mundaring and works closely with the Shire’s bushfire brigade. Volunteers respond to house fires, bushfires, road crashes and hazardous chemical incidents.
