Focus on indigenous culture

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

The free Shire of Mundaring events focus on the history, culture and achievements of Noongar people, in celebration of Naidoc Week from the first Sunday in July.

Noongar woman Rebecca Garlett invites primary schoolchildren to join her for a mix of songs, poems, games and stories about the Nyitting (dream) time.

The event runs from 11am to noon on Tuesday, July 7, at Mundaring Library and again on Thursday, July 9, at Greenmount Library.

High school students, aged 13 to 17, can learn more about the Noongar language and culture through Yarnin n Waabiny (talk and play) drama games and improvisation exercises with Ms Garlett, from 1.30pm to 3pm, on Wednesday, July 15, at Swan View Youth Centre in Brown Park.
