Forrestfield: students gather for inaugural soccer carnival

Sarah BrookesHills Avon Valley Gazette

STUDENTS from eight education support schools between Armadale and Middle Swan filled Hartfield Park Stadium yesterday for a soccer carnival.

Kalamunda Senior High School events coordinator Chris Saligari said she hoped that the inaugural event would grow like the annual basketball carnival held at Ray Owen complex – which hosts 400 students from 15 education support schools.

“Kalamunda Senior Education Support Centre students love their sport and the success of the basketball carnival inspired us to expand into soccer,” she said.

“We look forward to more schools attending next year.”

Ms Saligari said the school intended to start a cricket carnival in 2019.

Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes said it was a great turnout for the event.

“Congratulations to Kalamunda Education Support School for their initiative in creating these fantastic events,” he said.

“It’s obvious how beneficial it is to the students who participate and the students who cheer their team mates on.”
