RESIDENTS are invited to a free talk by Wasteless Pantry founder Jeannie Richardson later this month on how to live a less wasteful lifestyle.

Jeannie will share her vision for a wasteless future and the lessons she and her friend and co-founder Amanda Welschibillig have learnt on their journey toward sustainability.

The pair said their business, which sells bulk groceries, wholefoods, and home goods with a focus on sustainability and re-usability, stemmed from wanting more environmentally friendly options for customers, especially related to food and packaging.

“I think Wasteless Pantry really started out of us being frustrated consumers and wanting something like this available to us,” she said.

“So we decided to have a crack at creating it ourselves.

“The idea is that it’s somewhere where people can come and buy ingredients; food basics that they can then go home and make things from scratch with.”

Amanda said the flagship store, which opened in Mundaring Village in 2015, had been embraced by the Hills community.

“When we started we had no idea that there were as many people out there that were interested in this just like us and so it’s been wonderful to find all those people coming out of the woodwork and creating that community within the store,” she said.

Jeannie said she hoped her talk would inspire more people to waste less.

“My talk focuses on how to get around the single-use plastic in our lives and just generally how to live a less wasteful lifestyle,” she said.

“I touch on the importance of having a life that’s more enriched with experiences rather than stuff; where you draw happiness from experiences and therefore hopefully save some money, have less clutter and consume less.”

The Shire of Mundaring will host the talk in its administration building from 6pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday, August 29.
