The Swan View Community Garden, on the corner of Gladtsone Avenue and Watton Court, is a joint project between the Swan View Community Association and the Uniting Church.

Swan View Community Association’s Rosemary Smith said the $2000 grant would help build a therapy garden for adults and children, as well as provide more shade to its amenities.

‘We envisage the garden becoming a meeting place, to foster a community spirit around healthy living and eating, and to support those wishing to create a food garden at home or in their street,’ she said.

‘The completion of this project will make the community garden available to the disabled and we will be able to accommodate organisations that wish to use the garden as a therapy garden.’

Recycled materials were used throughout the garden, all labour work was voluntary and Boral Bricks, in Middle Swan, provided discounted bricks to make the area wheelchair accessible.

Ms Smith said committee members were looking forward to the establishment of more edible plants, such as a mango tree.
