Gidgegannup bushfire downgraded to alert

GIDGEGANNUP residents in Mayo Road and Toodyay Road are no longer under threat from a bushfire.

The bushfire is contained and there is a lot of smoke in the area.

A bushfire advice remains for people in the eastern part of Gidgegannup for an area bounded by Lilydale Road, Toodyay Road, Bailup Road, Dinsdale Road and Breeze Road, in the City of Swan.

The fire is burning south of Toodyay Road and east of the Noble Falls Tavern.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises people to remain alert and keep up to date in case the situation changes.

Avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site.

A number of roads have been closed including: Toodyay Road between Preedy Road and Berry Road and Mayo Road between Toodyay Road and Dinsdale Road.

More than 80 volunteer Bush Fire Service firefighters are on the scene.

Firefighters are building and strengthening containment lines.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

The fire has burnt through about 106ha.

Fire crews were alerted to the fire at 12.12pm yesterday (December 14).
