GIDGEGANNUP resident Hayley Tunstead received a $5000 scholarship to help cover costs of her teaching course.
The Edith Cowan University student was one of eight recipients of Teachers Mutual Bank scholarships in May.
Ms Tunstead will use the financial assistance to invest in textbooks, assignment and teaching aids and technology to help her complete a two-year teaching course at ECU Mt Lawley.
“We understand it is a challenge for studying teachers to balance competing study-work responsibilities and this pressure can often lead to considerable stress, or even drop out,” TMB chief executive Steve James said.
“We believe it’s important to support these future teachers during their studies so they can enter the education workforce.
Applications for 2017 will open in October.
As part of the application, students submit a 500 word essay addressing ‘Why teaching – why is it more than just a job?’
