High Wycombe sexual assault victim receives help from Senate hopeful Derryn Hinch

NICKI Hide is a victim of childhood sexual assault who has a become a staunch campaigner for other victims.

The High Wycombe resident said she was a “passionate victims’ advocate” who also runs a Facebook page called ‘Protect our children from adult predators’.

Ms Hide said she had a profound understanding of the devastating impact childhood sexual abuse had on families and the wider community, because her father is a convicted paedophile.

He was deported to New Zealand last year and his WA parole conditions were not enforced over there.

Since then, Mr Hide said she has ‘‘worked tirelessly for law change and to bring about awareness regarding the serious dangers of sexual and violent offenders within our communities’’.

Senate hopeful Derryn Hinch said he first caught up with Ms Hide after she spelled out, in an email for help, how her father had returned to New Zealand with no restrictions on his movements or his involvement with children.

“Between us we managed to alert the authorities and children at risk. I have worked with Nicki since then exposing the flaws in the bail and parole and bail systems here. We are honoured to have her join the team,” he said.

In April, Ms Hide and her husband were strong supporters of the rally held in Perth regarding ‘‘dangerous repeat sexual and violent offenders who are free to roam and prey on more unsuspecting victims’’.
