HILLS residents have raised more than $19,200 in three weeks to support a couple who lost their home in a fire allegedly started by their adopted son.

Shaun Gerard Broes Lynch (34) will appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on March 7 charged with causing criminal damage to the family property destroyed in the blaze.

Mt Helena Residents and Ratepayers Association added $500 to the community campaign for Danny and Anne Lynch, who lost everything in the fire on January 12. The group held a poolside barbecue to raise funds for the couple at Mt Helena Aquatic Centre on Saturday.

Donations of food for the event came from businesses including Linley Valley Pork and The Breadwinner Bakery in Mundaring.
