Mrs Patel was in labour for five hours before delivering her second daughter in the birthing suite at the St John of God Midland Public Hospital in Midland on Tuesday, the day the hospital opened.

Mr Patel said they named her Avi, which meant ‘sun’ in Gujarati.

Avi is sister to six-year-old Angel, who is very excited to meet her sister, her mother said.

Mr Patel said hospital staff were very helpful and very nice.

“Everybody was lovely to my wife and I since we got here,” he said.

“We can’t believe we had the first baby here and she was number one.

“Everybody is contacting us as if we are famous now.”

Mrs Patel was transferred from the Swan District Hospital on Monday morning while she was in labour.

Mr Patel’s parents are visiting from Ahmedabad, which is in the Indian state of Gujarat, and will be in Australia until January.
