BOYA Community Centre opened to the public on Monday, with hundreds of people coming through on the first day.

Shire President David Lavell said it was wonderful to see so much community interest in the new facility.

“Boya Community Centre is fantastic new space for people to enjoy the library and hire out community space,” he said.

“People were eagerly waiting for the doors to open on Monday morning; some people even delayed their children going to school so they could be among the first to look through.”

Boya Community Centre is home to the new Katharine Susannah Prichard Library, as well as 300sqm community space to replace Boya and Greenmount halls.

The early visitors received a commemorative bookmark, book bags and a chance to enter competitions.

Cr Lavell said the community space with a commercial kitchen was available for hire for weddings, functions and regular bookings.

“The space can cater for up to 200 people, with the room able to be divided into two for smaller events,” he said.
