NOT one but two Lesmurdie photographers have pocketed top WA professional photography awards.

Sarah Adams was named 2017 AIPP WA Portrait Professional Photographer of the Year while Channon Williamson the Newborn Professional Photographer of the Year.

The awards are run annually in every state by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) – the country’s largest photographic membership body.

Ms Adams, who officially started her professional photography journey just in 2011, said she adored capturing emotion in her work and was attracted to moments that touch the soul.

“My passion lies in capturing beauty, honesty and joy and my work strives to tell the story of those I photograph wherever possible,” she said.

“As a photographer I look to capture not only the essence of what is in front of me but how that moment feels.”

Ms Williamson says she started photography as a coping mechanism when she first immigrated to Australia with her two young children.

“I began documenting everything from simple things like receiving mail from family overseas to walks on the beach and everything in between,” she said.

“I began creating photo books that my children love looking at. We can see how much fun we had, how much we love them and how every tiny detail is important.

“I believe these memories should not be left to fade away somewhere on a cloud or a USB that has become obsolete. They are meant to be enjoyed and remind us of our bonds.”
