Lines drawn for election in Shire of Mundaring

NEW ward boundaries in the Shire of Mundaring will come into effect for next year’s local government elections.

The changes are the result of a ward review followed by extensive council and community discussion over the past 12 months.

It was recommended the boundaries of Central, South and West wards be amended at a council meeting in August; Local Government Advisory Board and Minister for Local Government Paul Miles MLA approved the proposal recently.

Shire President David Lavell said councillors agreed to change the boundaries to create a more even ratio of electors to elected members in readiness for the next local government elections in October next year.

Cr Lavell said the change represented only the third ward boundary amendment for the Shire since 1961, when the Mundaring Road District became the Shire of Mundaring.

In the South Ward, the portion of Greenmount south of Great Eastern Highway will be in the West Ward, uniting Greenmount in one ward and the Shire portion of Bellevue will be in the West Ward.

About one third of Glen Forrest currently in Central Ward will be in South Ward.
