Man faces court over alleged violent attack on Finnish national along Bibbulmun Track

A MAN who allegedly tried to kill a Finnish national with a shovel on the weekend is due to face court over the charge next month.

Matt Lewis Whittaker (36) appeared in a Midland court today charged with attempting to kill a 33-year-old man from Finland on the Bibbulman Track on Saturday.

According to Midland Detectives, about 1.30pm near Paulls Valley the Finnish man was hit by a white Mitsubishi Triton that was driven by Mr Whittaker.

It will be alleged that Mr Whittaker, from Sawyers Valley, then hit the man with a shovel, causing a significant head wound.

Mr Whittaker was charged with attempted unlawful killing and appeared in the Midland Magistrates Court today where Magistrate Martin Flynn adjourned the matter to August.

The 36-year-old was remanded in custody and will reappear at Stirling Gardens Magistrate Court on August 8.

Mr Whittaker is due to appear in Midland Magistrates Court on August 24 over two stealing offences.
