MIDLAND hosted a community event to raise awareness of the Department for Child Protection and Family Support.

The Department provided information stalls about child safety and family services at Juniper Gardens on Wednesday last week.

Along with a free lunch, activities included face painting, craft activities and games.

Child Protection Minister Andrea Mitchell said National Child Protection Week highlighted the role everyone could play to provide safe and caring environments for children.

“Protecting children is everyone’s responsibility, and we all need to take active steps to ensure children and families at risk or in crisis are supported,” Ms Mitchell said.

Midland District Director Lucy Davies said the event gave young people a chance to join in community life, with details about support available in Midland.

As of June 30 this year, there were 4658 children and young people in care in WA.
