Midland MLA Roberts hails Greenmount bus trial

Sarah BrookesHills Avon Valley Gazette

MIDLAND MLA Michelle Roberts has thrown her support behind Greenmount residents urging commuters to support a six-month trial of a bus service.

The trial will finish at the end of December.

Mrs Roberts said the original 323 bus service on Old York Road was removed by the then State Government in early 2016 over safety concerns about its exit from Old York Road on to the Great Eastern Highway.

Mrs Roberts said the closure forced elderly patrons to walk on verges without footpaths and cross four lanes of the busy highway.

She was pleased Transport Minister Rita Saffioti had re-introduced the bus service.

“The change of Government has brought common sense to the table, with the decision of Minister Saffioti to extend the Swan View 323 route from Old York Road three times a day on a six-month trial basis,” Mrs Roberts said.

“I would encourage people living in and around Old York Road, Greenmount, to utilise this bus service to ensure its continuation.

“I have also asked for Transperth to carry out a review to ensure trip times correspond with the needs of the community.”
