Motown band’s strong club ties

Stratosfunk will provide the Motown entertainment on October 19 as part of the Lesmurdie Club’s celebrations.

Dominic D’Leno was inspired to form the band after growing up with 1960s music.

‘Stratosfunk started as a seven-piece band covering soul and funk hits from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, however, in 2010, we were approached by a local promoter who had a vision for us to put on a Motown-inspired show for a new year’s eve event,’ he said.

‘We added backing vocals, fine-tuned our repertoire and brought in the new year with our new sound.

D’Leno said band members had ties to the club as children and their performance would bring it full circle.

‘We feel privileged to be involved in celebrating the Lesmurdie Club’s 50th anniversary,’ he said.

‘A number of us were members of the Kalamunda Youth Swing Band in our younger years and there was a period where we used the Lesmurdie Club for rehearsals.’
