Mum charged over fatal car crash

Investigators from the Major Crash Investigation Section charged the 31-year-old woman with two counts of failing to protect a child from harm after investigations into the crash on Great Southern Highway, Wundowie, on |January 1.

The woman’s eight-year-old daughter was killed in the crash and her two-year-old daughter was injured when the Toyota Echo she was driving left the road and crashed into trees.

Sgt Gerry Cassidy from Police Media said the charges did not relate to seatbelts.

‘The charge relates to what police will allege was the woman’s lack of fitness to drive on that occasion,’ Sgt Cassidy said.

The woman will appear in Northam Magistrates Court on June 17.
