Mundaring cafes get behind GO2CUPS push

Sarah BrookesHills Avon Valley Gazette

MUNDARING cafes are getting behind the GO2CUPS initiative in an effort to reduce the number of single-use coffee cups going to landfill.

Mundaring in Transition member Vanessa Charlton said the group had used a $5000 grant from the Keep Australia Beautiful Council to buy 1500 reusable cups to distribute in local cafes.

“It’s estimated Australians send around one billion disposable coffee cups to landfill each year,” she said.

“As part of the grant we will be conducting a pilot study with the cafes involved to record how many disposable cups they were using before the initiative and how many they are using now.

“We hope that if other businesses can see a reduction in the use of disposable cups then they will jump on board.”

GO2CUPS are available at the Leaf and Bean, Scoop and Mojo in Mundaring.
