Mundaring: Honky tonk divas ready to rock the Wild West

Honky tonk divas Monique diMattina and Rebecca Barnard are back in town.
Honky tonk divas Monique diMattina and Rebecca Barnard are back in town.

STORY-telling divas Monique diMattina and Rebecca Barnard will tour the ‘wild west’ with a new show playing at Mundaring Weir Hotel for one-night only.

Honky Tonk Women picks up where the duo left off, re-interpreting Bob Dylan in a series of sold-out shows earlier this year.

The new show is on cue to deliver a set of high-octane songs by Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone and The Beatles, plus a selection of their contribution to the Australian songbook.

Dancing between the genres of jazz/roots and rock/pop, the singers explore what it’s like to be a ‘honky tonk woman’ while juggling their roles as mothers, songwriters and renovators.

The artistes have worked with the likes of Lou Reed, Bjork, Brian May and Paul Kelly, who said Barnard ‘writes lyrics that hit like a freight train in the night’.
