THE Mundaring State Emergency Service unit will hold an open day next month.

The volunteer unit will hold the open day on May 5 as part of its membership drive.

It currently has about 30 members, who will be doing demonstrations, including sandbagging and roof safety systems, between 8.30am and 11.30am.

The unit was established in August 1990 and has had several severe thunderstorms in the Shire of Mundaring, including in 1994 when teams had to work for more than a week straight and again in 2011, for three days straight.

Members have attended incidents as far north as Kalumburu following cyclones, cyclone-damaged areas in Exmouth in 1999, fires in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria in 2000 and cyclone damage in Karatha in 2011.
