Vice-president John Milton said with a committee change came the idea to go back to generating the sound the society started out making.
‘We are coming back with a vengeance,’ he said.
‘We have a brand new committee and it was discussed that the society had been moving on a tangent and that we wanted to bring it back to classical music.’
The society has four concerts planned for 2014 and the first will be on June 1, featuring original classical guitarists husband-and- wife duo Mathew and Bek Laurenson, Christine Yeong and Duncan Gardiner with pianist Setsu Masuda.
The Laurensons, who formed The Inner Flame Duo in 2013, will perform three pieces together.
Ms Laurenson studied in the prestigious music program at Perth Modern High School and toured Europe with the ensemble.
She has been a leading member of the Classical Guitar Society Orchestra of WA for nine years. The concert coincides with the release of Mr Laurenson’s latest CD.
Ms Yeong has been playing guitar since she was 10 years old. She recently graduated with honours from UWA’s Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in classical guitar performance.
Mr Gardiner, who specialises in chamber music, recently toured Europe.
He will be joined by Mr Masuda and they will create a blend including Bach, Schubert, scenes from film, passionate tangos and heartfelt originals.
