Joe Marino is bowing out of council after 12 years.

‘Things never happened as quickly as I would have liked it to,’ he said, reflecting on his 12 years representing the Midland community, which ended at last Saturday’s elections.

Nevertheless, his first accomplishment was to have a pocket park established in the heart of Midland that now forms part of the heritage area.

‘As the chairperson of the eastern horizons project, which saw $22 million spent on Midland’s rejuvenation, it delivered the community with new parks, improved street lighting, roads, footpaths, landscaping, the demolition of multi-storey social living flats and a reduction in social housing in the area,’ Mr Marino said.

‘It’s a great legacy to leave for Midland.”
