New hospital set to open

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

The $360 million hospital will mark a new era in healthcare for the east metropolitan and Wheatbelt regions and will replace Swan District Hospital, which closes the same day.

Hospital chief executive Glen Power said the much-anticipated opening followed years of design and construction of the facility, coupled with an intensive commissioning program over the past six months.

“The new hospital will greatly enhance the region’s health services, as it will provide higher acuity and more complex clinical services, such as intensive care, coronary care and cancer care,” Dr Power said. “It is also providing greater services in emergency, paediatrics, aged care and rehabilitation, surgery, medicine and mental health.”
