However, Main Roads spokesman Dean Roberts said several road safety improvements are underway or in the pipeline for various locations along Toodyay Road between Middle Swan and Noble Falls.
Works for 2014-2015 include widening and sealing road shoulders and installing road safety barriers at the Springs Road intersection near Gidgegannup.
Mr Roberts said there would be more improvements to Toodyay Road from Roe Highway to Lewis Jones Cross, plus an upgrade to the Lewis Jones Cross intersection.
‘Other road safety improvement works to be funded on Toodyay Road in future years will involve widening of the curve near Noble Fall,’ he said.
‘There will also be reconstruction of a number of intersections to provide better separation of turning and through traffic, and widening sections of the road to provide bitumen sealed shoulders, which will reduce the incidence of run-off road crashes.’
Mr Smith (25) died after he landed in a gravel ditch near the intersection of Reen Road about 5.15am on February 16.
Mr Roberts said Main Roads was developing several safety improvement projects for Toodyay Road with the local community.
Gidgegannup Progress Association chairwoman Sally Block said Main Roads advised the association there was insufficient space to provide the required two-metre width for a cycle lane on each side of Toodyay Road.
