York was selected by the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) to be the first of 34 official destinations on the cup’s 16 week Trans-Tasman 2014 Melbourne Cup tour.
Living up to its status as the People’s Cup, locals were delighted when it visited York Hospital, York Residential Museum, York District High School, Whealtbelt Womens Health Hub and featured in a street parade and sundowner community function at York Recreation and Convention Centre.
York Shire President Matthew Reid said the community was thrilled to have been part of this year’s tour.
‘We are so proud to have had the chance to host the Cup Tour in our town,’ he said.
