P-plater’s lucky escape after car hits tree in Glen Forrest

A P-PLATER is lucky to be alive after crashing his car in Glen Forrest on Saturday night after leaving a party.

The Mahogany Creek 17-year-old’s Toyota caught on fire after failing to negotiate a bend on Ryecroft Road and ploughing through scrub into a tree.

He allegedly left the scene of the crash and had been drinking alcohol. His passenger was also uninjured.

Mundaring Constable Matthew Mackay said his message to the public was the same as that delivered to the boy’s parents.

“He’s incredibly lucky he was not seriously injured and that no-one else was hurt,” he said.

“He has apologised to the parents of his mate in the passenger seat.

“I think he understands the gravity of his actions.”

The boy was issued with a careless driving ticket and as a P-plater will have his licence cancelled.
