Truck driver remanded over two-death crash

A PERTH truck driver charged over a country WA crash that killed a young mother and her son has been remanded to a plea hearing in the District Court on July 26.

Carl Allan Bridge (45), of Forrestfield, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with two counts of driving occasioning death under the influence of drugs.

Mr Bridge was charged after Amy Slater (26) and her son Leroy (10) died when his truck towing two semi-trailers hit their parked Holden Commodore on the Brookton-Corrigin Road in August last year. The boy’s father had started walking to Corrigin for petrol after the Commodore had run out of fuel.

The crash left her three other children injured, one of them critically, leading to three other dangerous driving charges.

The New Zealand national was granted bail last year.

A charge of driving under the influence of drugs was referred Tuesday to Perth Magistrates Court on August 5.
