Police hunting driver of Falcon after Sawyers Valley bushfire

POLICE are looking for the driver of a 2000-model grey Ford Falcon who they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries into a severe bushfire in Sawyers Valley yesterday.

About 8.35am, emergency services were called to a bushfire on Gorrie Road near Chamber Road.

By late afternoon the fire was still burning and had jumped Mundaring Weir and was burning about 4000ha of bushland, with smoke shrouding much of Perth’s skyline.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.

Detectives would like to speak to the driver of the Falcon (similar to the one shown) that was seen on Gorrie Road in the area of Hancock Brook.

Anyone in the vicinity of the fire area who saw any suspicious people, vehicles or activity, or has any information regarding this fire is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.

Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
