STATE Emergency Service volunteers are calling on residents to help protect themselves and their homes against stormy spring weather.

Residents should ensure that gutters are cleared and branches around the home and near powerlines are trimmed.

Outdoor furniture and other loose objects can be dangerous in high winds and it is safer to stack them inside a shed and not leave them lying around in the yard.

Volunteers interested in joining the SES can visit the Mundaring SES website or call the unit on 9295 3133.

Existing skills will be valued and training includes driving 4WDs, navigation, team-work, conducting searches and first-aid.
