Canon Martelli was the Catholic priest in Toodyay, York and Northam from 1856-1858 and 1872-1880.
The archives at New Norcia holds a large collection of his correspondence from these periods, which the Italian department has transcribed and translated for a forthcoming book, due to be published in November.
But there is much more to know about the interesting man and the group is interested to hear from anyone who has any information about him.
