TEENAGE volunteers are winners at the Riding for the Disabled Hills Group in Sawyers Valley.

The Shire of Mundaring recently presented the council’s Access Mundaring citizenship award to the group.

Volunteer Ryan Kertesz (15) was one of the teenagers to be recognised.

“As a volunteer, it is nice for our efforts to be acknowledged in this way and it is better still being part of such a great group at RDA Hills Group – the children, the horses and the volunteers,” he said

Riding for the Disabled Group president Rebekah Millard (25) said community-minded volunteers aged from 13 were encouraged to contact the group because more were needed.

“It’s an opportunity to meet new friends, spend time with horses and learn new skills,” she said.

Riding sessions are held after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and on Saturday mornings.

“Duties may include tacking and untacking horses for lessons, leading or walking alongside riders, assisting with mucking out yards, making up feeds and more horsey fun. No previous experience is required,” she said.
