Sharing a Hills Christmas gets ready to help the disadvantaged

AS Christmas draws closer, local churches, schools and businesses are busy preparing to distribute gifts to those in need this festive season.

Sharing a Hills Christmas co-ordinator Peggy Mews said Christmas was not a happy time for some families.

“For a number of years, the churches in the City of Kalamunda have worked, together with the community to help brighten Christmas for needy families,” she said.

“The community donate food, gifts, vouchers and treats ready to be sorted, packed and delivered in the two weeks prior to Christmas.

“A gift for every member of the family is included.”

Ms Mews said families needing help were referred by churches, school chaplains and community-based referral centres.

“In 2016, volunteers delivered 342 food and gift hampers, 197 small gift bags to nursing home residents, 10 gift bags to patients in Kalamunda Hospital and a festive basket for the hospital staff,” she said.
