Shire of Mundaring to revisit youth service funding after councillor intervention

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

MUNDARING council is going back to the drawing board over a multi-thousand dollar contract to provide the Shire’s youth service after a councillor asked for a decision to be reviewed the following day.

Councillor Stephen Fox moved to revoke a motion by Cr Jason Russell to provide a youth partnership funding program for the youth service.

The motion was carried 6-5 at the council meeting on Tuesday.

Cr Fox said he wished to rescind Tuesday’s decision to allow more time to access additional information.

In February, councillors knocked back a recommendation to award the $216,200 three-year contract to MercyCare.

Under the Local Government Act, any motion to revoke or change a council decision must be supported by at least a third of the number of council members inclusive of the mover.
