The new precinct, on Drummond Street, will contain most future sporting facilities for the town, including football, hockey, soccer and cricket.

It will also provide space for a proposed Toodyay Aquatic Centre.

Toodyay Shire president Kevin Hogg said council made the right decision to buy the 14ha site adjacent to Toodyay District High School.

‘For years the Shire has struggled to find sufficient space for all its sport and recreation needs. This site will meet all requirements with the added benefit of proximity to the school, which should allow maximum use of shared facilities.

‘A greenfield site in a historic town like Toodyay is a unique opportunity and we need to make the most of it,’ Mr Hogg said.

The Shire recently completed a sport and recreation master plan to determine the community’s long-term needs.

‘This site will be the focus of much of the Shire’s community investment for the next decade and we will have one chance to get it right,’ Mr Hogg said.
