Step out on new walking trails

The Shire of York has published a new brochure that details short walks around the town.

They include the Avon Walk Trail, the Town Walk Trail and the Mt Brown Bush Trail.

‘We went to the top of Mt Brown and worked out a walk,’ said Judith Anderson, the Shire of York’s environmental health officer.

‘We have designated it as ‘hard’ because it’s an unsealed surface. It’ll get your heart rate up, but the view from the top of Mt Brown overlooks the whole town.’

The brochure was produced with funds provided from the Swap It, Don’t Stop It national campaign.

Launched in 2011, the campaign is funded by the Federal Government and administered by the Heart Foundation.

The brochure advises walkers attempting the trails to wear appropriate footwear, carry water and a basic first aid kit, as well as sunscreen and a hat.

Shire planning assistant and Ms Anderson co-wrote the brochure, which is available from York Information Services on Avon Terrace.
