Suspensions a ‘stunt’, says grieving man

Mr Saulys’s wife Janice (69) died last year after she was twice treated at the hospital. But he said he hoped the review and its findings would bring about real change at the hospital.

‘The hospital needs to change from the top down,’ Mr Saulys said.

The Northam grandfather said he had been in contact with other families of patients who had died after being treated at the hospital and they were considering a class action for damages against the State Government.

‘Somebody has to be responsible,’ he said.

Prof Geelhoed stated in his review that the WA Coroner was still considering whether or not to conduct a formal probe into Mrs Saulys’s case.

‘While a review of her presentations show some problems with communication, it is not possible to ascribe responsibility for her death to her management in Northam Hospital,’ the report said.
