MUSICAL talent Calvin Bennett and Farraday Tween have taken out the WAM Song of the Year Under-14 category for a second year.
The pair, who are the band Farraday’s Cage, heard about their latest win at the awards party on Wednesday night.
Darlington guitar-playing songwriter Calvin said Farraday Tween’s vocals conveyed a smooth and bluesy edge to his latest song, The Fire Inside.
“We were stoked to win the Under-14 award for a second year and to be listed as finalists in the adult ‘blues and roots’ section was real validation of our work,” he said.
“I’m really pleased that the song’s been recognised not once but twice.
“It’s a personal song for me that I wrote and we recorded and mixed in my bedroom, so being nominated is really special.
“The inspiration is about obsession and people who become consumed by things, there are a lot of metaphors in there about bushfires,” he said.
The song is available through Spotify and other streaming platforms.
After last year’s award win, the teenagers signed a management contract with Noah Shilkin, of Sonic Lolly.
They are concentrating on upcoming recordings and will next be seen on stage at the Cabin Fever Festival in Margaret River in July.
Other performance credits include the recent opening of Yagan Square, Gourmet Escape in Margaret River and Illuminate Festival supporting Justice Crew and Killing Heidi.
Calvin attends Helena College in Darlington and Farraday recently moved from Lake Joondalup Baptist to Aranmore Catholic College.
