Too hard for Video Ezy to stay open

Manager Maire Lincoln said the industry had been on a gradual decline for some time.

‘That is just the general direction the trade has been going, but this year has been worse,’ she said.

‘It is a combination of fewer people coming through the doors, but also people renting less.

‘People are downloading more on their computers, which means a reduction in the number of people who come and rent.

‘Also, downloads mean no risk of late fees.’

Ms Lincoln said other franchises in Dianella and Bassendean had closed in recent months.

She said she wanted the store to go out on a high.

‘Customers have been disappearing, which is unfortunate, but we wanted to close before it got too bad,’ she said.

Ms Lincoln said once Video Ezy closed, there would be only one video rental shop remaining.

Civic Video Kalamunda declined to comment.
