Total fire ban declared as Perth prepares to battle scorching hot temperatures

THE Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) have declared a total fire ban today as the state prepares to deal with another scorching hot day.

With the temperature expected to hit 39 degrees in Perth today, DFES have reacted accordingly and announced a total fire ban is in place.

DFES have also preemptively closed Avon Valley National Park until 1pm Saturday due to the severe fire danger rating.

It follows bushfires in Harrisdale, Jandabup and Langford over the last few days.

Anyone caught ignoring a total fire ban will receive a $1,000 on-the-spot fine and in serious cases, can be fined up to $25,000 fine and even face jail time.
