Southern River MLA Peter Abetz, Member for Eyre Dr Graham Jacobs and Member for Morley Ian Britza accompanied Ms Fuchsbichler on Quairading and Cunderdin roads.
Ms Fuchsbichler said it was an information day, to combat some of the misinformation about Wheatbelt roads, particularly with the future of the Tier 3 rail network still unknown as CBH and Brookfield Rail try to come to an agreement.
The group met with the Shire of Quairading and the Shire of York.
Ms Fuchsbichler said the Shire of Moora has now joined in WWRA’s fight to keep grain on rail, as the Tier 2 rail network is under threat.
‘There is still around 200,000 tonnes of grain to be transported out of Quairading without the rail,’ Ms Fuchsbichler said.
‘The road to Cunderdin is not finished and it will probably be about two years before the S bends are straightened and the York-Quairading road has had some widening done, in places; just bitumen strips added. There is already some damage and signs of foundations failing.
‘The roads will not stand up to the long-term freight task. Road repair and maintenance will be an ongoing funding issue.’
