RATEPAYERS forked out $1.3 million for the Shire of Mundarings vehicle fleet this financial year.
About $358,000 of that figure is for passenger-type vehicles.
Mundaring chief executive Jonathon Throssell responded to questions over private use of the vehicles at the council meeting last Tuesday.
“Staff that have commuting use rights can pay a contribution to obtain private use based on the principle of cost recovery for additional operating costs incurred,” he said.
“The majority of passenger vehicles which are all required for work purposes are also utilised for commuting use (home to work) or private use, depending on contracts of employment.”
The budgeted capital cost for passenger type vehicles was $353,000, offset by $167,000 in trade income.
“Through detailed analysis, fleet and plant are changed over at specific points to minimise operating and capital costs to the Shire,” Mr Throssell said.
