WorkCover WA inspector to visit the Wheatbelt

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

A WorkCover WA inspector will visit the Wheatbelt region this month to remind employers of their duty to have workers’ compensation insurance.

Employers are encouraged to make sure they have a valid workers’ compensation certificate of currency ahead of visits to Toodyay and Gingin on November 16.

Compliance checks that show employers do not hold the required insurance may result in penalties and prosecution.

In 2016/17, 18 claims lodged in Toodyay totalled $550,592 and more than $862,670 for some 38 claims in Gingin.

WorkCover WA said most employers in the Wheatbelt do the right thing and hold the necessary insurance.
