Glen Forrest Bowling Club hosted a lunch and social bowls competition on Australia Day.

One player in the winning team was just five years old.

Little Xanthe was shown how to hold and deliver the special kids’ bowls ” and she took to it like a duck to water.

Club secretary Jim Henderson, just days away from his 75th birthday, said the 70-year gap between him and his little team mate did not show in the result.

‘Xanthe was a wee bit shy to start with, but when we adjusted the distance she had to bowl, she was right into it and was a genuine factor in our handsome win,’ he said.

‘I reckon she’s proof that just about anybody can have great fun on the bowling green.

‘If anybody wants to try it out, they are very always welcome at our great little club,’ he said.
