PRE-SCHOOL children in York will have the opportunity to learn more than one language using play-based mobile tablet apps.
Pearce MHR Christian Porter said York Child Care Centre had obtained a place in the Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) program.
“The ELLA program is a great opportunity for our pre-schoolers to make an early start on becoming familiar with another language,” Mr Porter said.
He said the youngsters would experience Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, French or Arabic languages.
The announcement comes after last year’s trial of 41 pre-schools, opening the program to more than 300 services, including the York early learning centre.
“I commend Brenda Treloar at York Child Care Centre for committing to the program and providing the children with this opportunity,” Mr Porter said.
He said the Government had invested $9.8 million in the app to revive language studies in early education centres, schools and universities.
